Bieber Fever

By the way, Harper just loves Justin Bieber.  Her favorite song is Baby.  I am not really sure how it all happened.  At one point, she asked me if Justin Bieber was a real person.  (Yes, Harper.  Justin is a real boy.)  Harper rocks some of his t-shirts, owns a singing Bieber doll, has watched his videos on Youtube and runs around belting out his songs...every day.  I am not complaining.  We recently rented his movie Never Say Never and let me just tell you:  It is a MUST see!  No joke.  It is a remarkable story about a very talented little boy, raised by his young single mother.  The movie made me laugh, sing and cry (yes, cry.)  There is so much I love about this story.  At the end of the day, it isn't just about Justin.  It is about a teen mom doing the best she can.  It is about grandparents loving a little boy regardless of the situation surrounding his birth.  It's about a young manager with little to no experience believing in the talent of a twelve year old boy.  It is also about a little boy who has a dream and never gave up.

Harper and I have The Fever.
We are Beliebers.
It's true.

Harper's World Is About To Look A Whole Lot Different....

No pictures this post.  We got a new-to-us computer and I am still learning the ropes, plus...we are packing to move in just four short weeks!  After almost a year, our house sold and we found a house in Fulton.  Just in time too.  I think Chris had grown tired of the long commute both physically and mentally.  I got a taste of the single parent life, which I had grown tired of.  So off we go...

Harper finishes up Pre-K the day before our scheduled closing.  This phase of our lives will be bittersweet on so many levels:  leaving Rochester and Harper moving from 'pre-school' to real school are really just for starters.  Those who know me well realize that I have grown to depend on the accessibility of certain cultural outlets.  I fear for my sanity in a place that seems to lack everything except a stagnant economy.  Fortunately, our new home will have plenty of yard (over one acre!) and updating (built and decorated in 1984!) to distract me for a little while.  Maybe, just maybe, I'll enter the workforce again.

Skies the limit!  Pictures to come...

Did I Mention My Baby Is In Pre-K This Year?

Dressed and ready to go!
Yes, that's right...off she goes...growing up...making me feel proud and sad and old...

She cried (sobbed!) the entire first week, but rest assured she is doing great today, five months later.

The Nutcracker 2010

RPO & Rochester City Ballet's Nutcracker 2011
We began taking Harper to see the RPO and Rochester City Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker when she was just two years old.  It is performed every year, Thanksgiving weekend, at the historic Eastman Theatre in downtown Rochester.  If you have not seen a performance yet, you really must go!  It is one of the few ballet's performed to a live orchestra.

Harper loves going to the ballet.  She gets to wear a fancy dress and take a little purse with snacks.  We go to the last performance on the Sunday evening after Thanksgiving, and purchase seats that allow Harper to have an aisle to stand up in (if necessary) and also have an incredible view of the perfomance itself.  Each year she has gotten more and more mezmorized by the costumes and dancing.  And with each year, we enjoy watching her appreciate a cultural experience few adults have the opportunity to witness.

For me, her mom, I like that she gets excited by classical music and starts dancing whenever and WHERE ever she hears Tchaikovsky!

P.S.
This year was extra special because Harper got to meet (and receive an autograph from) Jessica Tretter, part of the company and Dew Drop in the 2010 performance of The Nutcracker.  Cool!!

Beauty Is Often Painful

Before...excited and happy

Unlike many parents of little girls, I made the concious dicision to allow Harper to choose when she would like her ears pierced.  She had expressed little interest until this year.  Several of the little girls in her pre-k class have their ears pierced, and low and behold...she decides it would be really nice to get hers done as well.  So, the Friday before Halloween we took her "trick or treating" at the local mall to kill some time and let her enjoy being dressed up.  We pass the Piercing Pagoda and it is decided that that particular evening was going to be the big day.  Sorry for the poor quality photos (they were taken by Chris' Crackberry) but you get the idea.
After.
