In December of 2005, we were quickly schooled in the art of being parents. And not just your every day, run-of-the-mill, drop 'em off at the grandparents (or whom ever else will take them) parents either. We believe that in order to raise a healthy, smart, well mannered, confident child that is a pleasure to be around, you have to be knee-deep in the trenches and like it! We have a little saying - This is Harper's World...we just live in it.

The Little Girl Who Cries Wolf
Yep, she sure does. Whether it is pretending to have to go to the bathroom or pretending to be hurt, she likes to cry "wolf." Under a great amount of frustration I told a quick version of why we do not, under any circumstance, pretend to be hurt when we are not. It has not stuck. It continues...and with it grows my frustration. Any suggestions as to how to curb this new form of entertainment? I think tomorrow we will be taking a trip to the library where I will pick up a book (or twelve!) about this topic. Let me know what all you Mommy blog-buddies have to say about this. Thanks.

Ok, so I am loving your new blog! You may even inspire me to get my act together & put an update on mine. My biggest problem is having the time to put pictures with it....I'm always afraid people will get bored w/o pictures. But, I have to say that lately I have enough funny stories about just the "day to day" crap that happens around here that I could give people a few good laughs.
ReplyDeleteSo, anyways, keep up the good work!
Oh, and as far as crying wolf...hmmmm....I'm not sure I have a good answer for that. Usually if I don't respond, a sibling does & gives me a clue as to whether it's a real "need" or not. Maybe the solution is a sibling, but I guess that's not gonna happen for Harper, unless of course you'd like to adopt! (I've got 1 or 2 you could probably have!)
Have you read---How to talk so kids will listen and how to listen so kids will talk???? Great book and great ways to help communicate and teach problem solving. I highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vi's Mom! I will look for that in the library the next time I go.
